Ansu Fati has come second in the voting for Golden Boy 2020, the annual award presented by Italian sports paper Tuttosport to the best player in Europe under the age of 21. Only Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, with 302 points, outscored the Barça striker.
18-year-old Fati finished with 239 points to finish ahead of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies in third with 226. Barça’s other finalist, Sergiño Dest, finished a more than respectable 14th.
Ansu finished sixth in the Golden Boy voting for 2019, and is so young that he still has more chances in future years!
However, Ansu may have finished second in the official vote, but he came out top in the Web Golden Boy, a parallel competition voted by website users.
It comes on the back of a tremendous year in which he broken records left, right and centre for being the youngest player to do a wealth of different things. And hopefully it will go some way to cheering him up at a time when a knee injury has him side-lined for around four months after starting the season with 5 goals in 10 games.
