Álex Abrines to appear at Sports Tomorrow Congress (WOM+N) 2O21

FC Barcelona basketball star to speak at a session on sports technology at the event being held from November 8 to 12

There are plenty of big names among the 120 or so specialists on the sports industry appearing at the Sports Tomorrow Congress (WOM+N) 2021 being organised by the Barça Innovation Hub (BIHUB) from November 8 to 12 to present and debate the latest trends in science, technology and business associated with sport.

The latest name to be added to the list is none other than Álex Abrines, the Barça basketball star who was previously as the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA. He will be appearing at one of the sessions in the Technology track. Footballer Frenkie de Jong, in his case in the Sports Analytics track, is also featuring in a joint session with Vosse de Boode, head of Sport Science and Data Analytics at AFC Ajax.

Abrines will be joined by Ferran Prieto, CEO of Pau Gasol Enterprises for a panel debate on the latest developments in sports technologies, presenting some of the latest entertainment systems and discussing how important they are for fan engagement, the impact of new generation technologies on training and recovery routines in world sport, new content platforms, digital assets and NFT, and the challenges and opportunities in these areas.

Technology is just one of seven tracks at this year’s congress, which will be attended by a wide range of guests also specialising in Medicine and Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Performance, Business, Methodology (Coaching) and Gastrosport, the latter being a new area of the event that combines sports nutrition with cuisine.

All of these conferences will be based around the core theme of women and their role in different areas of the sports industry. Indeed, what is being called the Sports Tomorrow Congress (WOM + N) 2021 is a statement of principles with a view to fostering equal representation and opportunities for women in all areas of the sector.

Of the more than 120 specialists from 47 countries, no fewer than 55 per cent are women, including such big names as Milena Bertolini, coach of the Italian women’s team, Rita Guarino, coach of Inter Milan women, and Iraia Iturregi, coach of the Athletic Club de Bilbao women, speaking in the Methodology track, Caroline Graham Hansen of FC Barcelona, Kirsty Elliot Sale from the University of Nottingham, Nicky Keay, endocrinologist of Sport and Dance, and Clara Prats from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, speaking on Medicine and Physiotherapy.

This year’s event is using a hybrid format with more than 75 hours of content organised both face-to-face in various venues at the Camp Nou, and also online via the BIHUB website.
